Project Runway Season 5

Here we go again. The first show starts tonight, and from what I've heard, it's another typical first episode recycling type challenge.

Anyone excited for the new season? somewhat interested? over it?

I seem to be less and less interested in the designers as I watch the shows but I still watch it "just because".

Let's what talent comes along this time around....

I MUST have that t-shirt Blayne was wearing at the day of the runway...the "Tom Ford for Prez" shirt.

Anyone know where I could get it?

As far as the episode goes...the shower curtain guy should not have gone, it should have been the trash bag lady.

The blue plastic cups guy should have TOTALLY won...I have no idea why the vacuum cleaner lady won...her dress was ugly, I mean, granted I liked the print she created, but the bust part of her design was hideous.

Diorcourture I totally agree with you! I have not idea why the coffee filter w/ dyed paper dress won! And I don't understand why all the judges complimented the dress. The bust part was absolutely hideous! Who would like to wear two round paper circle and then nothing on the top?

paper cup boy should have won omg!!! and yeah the trash lady should have gone! two bad choices in one night geesh.

tim said the contestants were the most diverse, however to me, the majority of them seem the same and kind of blend in together (for what i can tell so far). hopefully this season won't suck

i don't think that raincoat guy should have gone home. granted it was creepy, but for some reason i don't know why, it reminded me of comme des garcon/junya watanabe or the max mara raincoat from their spring 08 collection. stella's design was by far the worst and she should have gone home...but raincoat guy was BORING...

so far, kind of a bland group of people.

the guy who's obsessed with tanning creeps the crap out of me!

I also think the plastic cup dress should've won. That was an unbelievably creative use of a ridiculous material and reminded me a bit of that cobalt patent leather dress Balenciaga did back in 07. The challenge itself was lame. Out of all of the challenges they could've repeated they chose the one that practically guarantees bad results and then most of the designers get criticized for playing it safe.

So far most of the designers annoy me, whether it's the way they look, their name (Suede?!?!? c'mon), their attitude, the way the talk, the way they dress, or in the case of Blayne, all of the above. Trap him in a tanning bed and call it a day, that's what I say.

It seems like there's a lot of hipster-esque, downtowny pseudo-cool designers this season, as opposed to truly fashionable people. It seems like it's gonna be more street than runway.

d_c, that Tom Ford tee looks like something Marc Jacobs would do for his "special items" line. He always does statement tees.

I agree with you all, the plastic cup dress should have won. I was amazed at how good it looked, it had great structure. Granted, there wasn't much added detail, but come on, he found a way to manipulate plastic cubs into a fabric substitute, that was genius! I liked the coffee filter skirt with the print, but I hated the top.

So far I'm not impressed or excited by the designers. Maybe the next episode will be better.

^ I think the lack of excitement probably has a lot to do with the challenge. There's no way to really tell what each designer's aesthetic or skill is since the challenge and specifically the materials really limited those things.

The dude from my hometown, Seattle, Blayne? Nasty. Obnoxious. A Mary. Looks 40 years old. "Girlicious" isnt cute and you're not innovative.
Too bad he'll be kept around because he thinks (like the flaming Christian) he invented the phrase "Holler at your boy".
P.S. that tacky shirt he was wearing said Romeo + Saint on the back.

Daniel with the plastic cups should have won the challenge.

I lvoed seeing Austin Scarlett. He reminds me of a young YSL in his style.

It seems everyone is quite the character this time around.
Quite a few Christian's with catch phrases and everything.
I really hope there is some talent in the lot.

Oh I agree. I guess I was disappointed, because none of the designers jumped out at me. And the Girlicious dude is annoying. I did not like his 'garment' (if you can call it that) at all.

On a sidenote, I thought Nina Garcia left Elle?!?
