Just noticed this -
love the Kinks!!!
Village Green Preservation Society is a special album and definitely my favorite by them. It's one of those albums that is just amazing from start to finish. My favorite song by them though, would be Waterloo Sunset which is from
Something Else. Others i like (and i will miss many, i know...) Wicked Annabella... Picture Book... Oklahoma USA... Lola... Starstruck... Where Have All The Good Times Gone...
One thing that sets the Kinks apart from their contemporaries (IMHO) is the lyrics - they wrote good catchy songs with amazing, thoughtful lyrics. I remember reading somewhere someone commenting on the Kinks (I think it was Peter Buck from REM), and he mentioned that he visited the area referenced in "Waterloo Sunset" and was shocked at what a dump it was, but then impressed with the sentiment that went into the lyrics. "I don't feel afraid, as long as i gaze on Waterloo sunset, i am in paradise." - it's all in perception, and that isn't learned.
Blah, blah - i'm rambling.
Plus, i got my first karma on TFS (from .francesca) when i posted
Village Green Preservation Society in the "album of the day" thread.
