Kanye's Mom Passes Away

This is really sad and I am pretty sure it was unexpected. Kanye and his mom were very close.

Kanye West's mother, Dr. Donda West, has died, according to Hot 97's Miss Info. Kanye was in London when he was given the tragic news. He is currently on his way back to the United States.

Rhymefest, who co-wrote Kanye's hit song "Jesus Walks," confirmed the news to WGCI-FM in Chicago.

West often spoke about the close relationship he shared with his mother. Dr. West worked as the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University before retiring to become her son's manager. No information on the cause of death is yet available.

According to Essence, Kanye's mom was the CEO of West Brands, LLC at the time of her death. She was also Chair of the Kanye West Foundation.

Calls to Kanye's management were not immediately returned.

UPDATE: A rep for Kanye confirmed to WLS-TV in Chicago that Kanye's mom passed away Saturday night in Los Angeles.
