isn't there some big scandal going where miley said she was sorry for posing for that picture with her shirt off. its kinda odd to have a 15 year old girl posing top less.
I don't really know why people are freaking out about Miley being "topless" (she's covered by a sheet). I see her as ALREADY fifteen, not JUST fifteen. I guess I don't fall for tween innocence in this day and age.
People are freaking out because there is something very disturbing about the sexualization of children (and yes, according to US law, she is still considered a child). You argue that she's posing with a sheet, so what's the big deal? Well, that's exactly what I find very disturbing about the entire photograph. This implies sexual behavior. People usually wrap themselves in a sheet after being in bed. Her come hither and suggestive look are very obvious. It's not that hard to see what is causing all this commotion, when you really think about it.

Miley Cyrus Causes "Scandal" With Vanity Fair Shoot
15 year old Hannah Montana star, Miley Cyrus, posed topless for Vanity Fair with nothing but a sheet covering her breasts(?). This has reportedly caused outrage with her fans and the public, because no one realized Vanity Fair was a kiddie porn magazine. Coincidentally, Cyrus now thinks it was a bad idea. ABC News reports:
I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," she said in a statement. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."
In a statement, Disney took the opportunity to blame Vanity Fair:
Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines," a network statement said."
However, Vanity Fair insists that Miley and her parents were well aware of the photos and approved the shoot:
Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day," the magazine said. "Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley." In a caption released by Vanity Fair with the photo last week, Cyrus expressed her comfort with how the apparently topless picture turned out."I think it's really artsy," she told the magazine at the time. "It wasn't in a skanky way. Annie took, like, a beautiful shot, and I thought that was really cool. That's what she wanted me to do, and you can't say no to Annie."

If she wasn't a Disney star this wouldn't be a big deal...I mean Taylor Momsen is 14 and posed on the cover of NY Magazine in her underwear and no one said anything. It's because she's on an edgy show and also because she doesn't have a tween fanbase making her a billionaire.
I personally found the pic of Miley and her father more creepy than this one...they look like lovers. I don't know any girl who would pose like that with their father past the age of 10. It's really her parent's responsibility this time, 15 year olds want to be sexy and older but parents have to reign them in sometimes. They failed this time...

A source tells Usmagazine.com that Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife Tish were at the Vanity Fair shoot all day but decided to leave before the final, racy photo of Miley was snapped.
“They were happy with the photos taken earlier in the day, but they didn’t see the photo in question until now," the source says.
(In a statement, a Vanity Fair rep said, "Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot, and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley.")
So how is Miley — who is currently hiding out in Nashville — holding up?
“She’s embarrassed," the source says. "Her parents are really upset about the situation.”
On Monday, Bill O'Reillyblasted the "Achy Breaky Heart Singer" for allowing his teen daughter to pose for Vanity Fair in the first place.
"Vanity Fair ... is not her audience at all," he said, adding that he turned her into a "sex symbol" at 15.
He suggested she "do Oprah and say, 'We made a mistake, here's why and it won't happen again.'"

As practiced outrage spread through America on Monday over Miley Cyrus' back-baring photos for Vanity Fair ("Miley's Shame" boomed the front of The New York Post), no one was more confounded than the magazine's fashion and style director, Michael Roberts, who styled the shoot by Annie Leibovitz. "I'm European. I come from London, I lived in Paris, and I just find it extraordinary that this has been blown up like this," he told WWD.
He continued, "The whole kiddie porn prurient angle seems to be worryingly sour grapes from other magazines that didn't get a picture like this...teenagers can be seen on TV and in the cinema in the most prurient ways, and then a photograph which is for all intents and purposes innocent is blown out of portion and condemned as some ridiculous apotheosis. It's a joke to me. But it's not a joke because I don't find it funny. I find it offensive. I'm deemed as being party to some kind of subversive picture of this girl, that she was cajoled. That we literally manhandled her into stripping is completely not true."
He also objected to the characterization of Cyrus' attire as a bedsheet. "It's a duchess satin stole, Champagne, specially made — I had several made for different photo shoots. I thought this one was really appropriate. It's about 83 inches long. She's not wrapped in something skimpy. She had her jeans on. She looked at the screen and loved the picture."
As for Cyrus' statement apologizing to her fans and distancing herself from the shoot, Roberts said, "This is a girl caught up in a gigantic enterprise where many people's fortunes are riding on her future. If it was fine then, I don't see why suddenly it's not fine."
Roberts suggested one rationale for the change of heart: "Maybe Vanity Fair is a far too sophisticated media outlet for her. Maybe she's better off in those teen magazines. We don't do cheesy teen pictures. We do chic pictures and pictures that are beautiful portraits by probably the leading portrait photographer of our age."
Leibovitz did not respond for a request for comment, but issued a statement through Vanity Fair Monday saying, "I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted. Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it. The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful." The magazine's statement said in part, "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day."
The Disney Channel, which does a brisk business off Cyrus' squeaky clean image, said in a statement, "Unfortunately, as the article [in Vanity Fair] suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines."
i could have sworn I've seen "skankier" shots of her recently on the internet showing her bra and stuff, typical myspace pics...how come her fans didn't voice their outrage then?
I find it funny that Annie says " I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted," Come off it. I think there is only one way to interpret that. They want to sell covers. I think it is creepy as hell that Annie or Michael Roberts would suggest that a 15 year old posing with a sheet over her is "artistic". Why is she in Vanity Fair anyways? Shame that people are talking about Miley when Bobby Kennedy is on the cover.

When I first heard there was a scandal about Miley's photo shoot I was thinking "ok she's posing with no underwear like Britney did" I believe it was for Esquire. Anyway when I saw the picture of Miley I didn't see "too sexual" or anything like that, edited: please see tFS guidelines That's what I was thinking when they said scandal, I don't see anything "overly sexual" in this picture of her with the sheet, she's not showing anything close to what she could be.
