I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I saw a short report about a former manager/agent a few weeks ago who revealed some secrets about how models got treated by their agency.
As far as I remember, they neither told his name nor the agency he worked for, but it was a big and very well known one in New York.
The commentator said their models are only allowed to eat 300 calories a day, followed by a chart which showed a daily diet plan and it consisted mostly of vegetables, an apple, half a diet yogurt, slices of fatless fish and turkey meat, etc.
what i don't understand is how you can eat let's say... only 300 calories a day and not gain weight? i know this sounds silly but every nutrition book i've read says that the less you eat makes you actually pack on the pounds because your body goes into "starvation" mode and stores whatever fat you have. is it because these people are already skinny and don't have much fat to begin with? or do they work out and not eat at the same time?
^ Your body goes into starvation mode and for awhile you will put on weight but the body eventually has to use the fat that it is storing because you aren't giving it anything else..
And also if a person is eating say only fruit, so it's just 300 calories worth of fruit, how much fat in that fruit is there for the body to store? Not very much.
It sounds like these agencies are forcing eating disorders upon girls. It's like abuse. I think someone should sue them for a whole bunch of money.
Moreover, if your body is in the so called "starvation mode" it will take all the fat out of it's fat-reserves -> which acutally leads to losing weight.
omg, 300 calories..I´m so happy that here in finland this business is still healthy, at least compared to major markets. When Suvi won TV- model competition, Modelschool ( pretty much similar to ANTM, but better IMO, sorry off-topic ) , Finnish clients didn`t want to use her much, and people still think she`s too skinny, so called public opinion. She was instantly send to Milan. And what`s crazy, now she`s looking one of those healthier models.
^well Suvi might look ok but she admitted she was bulimic/threw up after meals on that Tv show though..
Oh, really? I don´t remember that, but I didn`t watch every episode. I just remember judges warned her from losing weight, back then she said she weighed 48 kg and she is 181 cm. Anyway, I think her body has became more womanly now, and she`s not that bony anymore.

What I've noticed - this thread is starting to be something like a little thread for each model and each model has to be discussed here as skinnier/to skinny/starving etc. even if she isn't. I don't mean it's the same situation with every model who's theme was tugged in here, but it seems to be like if you don't have a girl to discuss you choose the first one from the alphabet...

Oh yes, that makes sense. ughh! but it's so sad! one cannot mentally or physically function on that alone! without protein & nutrition, aren't the models scared of their hair falling out, brittle nails and breaking bones?! edit i can't imagine how they do it!
