December 3, 2004 -- A NEW, unauthorized biography of Kate Moss paints a portrait of the super-waif as a debauched dope. Katherine Kendall's "Kate Moss: Model of Imperfection," due from Penguin next month, relates how Moss was discovered at JFK Airport at age 14 on her way back from a family holiday in the Bahamas during which she'd lost her virginity. Kendall says Moss started smoking and drinking heavily when she was 13, often in front of her uncaring parents. At 15 she took time off from school to walk the runway for the first time for designer John Galliano. Instead of returning to her studies, "me and this other person drank a bottle of scotch between us," Moss is quoted. "I passed out [and] went missing for two days." Moss also had some odd encounters with her former beau Johnny Depp's pal, Hunter S. Thompson. The first time they met, Thompson demanded to know whether Depp was beating her sufficiently. On another occasion, Moss' mother had to flee Thompson's Aspen compound in fear for her life when the gonzo author blew up propane tanks by shooting them in the middle of the night. And Moss, who did a stint in a London rehab center, recounts how she switched from gin to vodka after doctors warned her she'd get a "gin blossom" nose
