The marriage of Antonia Kidman and Angus Hawley is said to be "beyond repair", with Kidman family sources revealing that the couple are now working on the settlement of their property and assets.
In a sad development for the young family, we have learnt that the couple long ago gave up on hopes that counselling might save their 11-year union.
Hawley cut a lonely figure as he breakfasted with his three-year-old son, James, at a Double Bay cafe at 7am on Wednesday.
The openly loving father, unshaven and unsmiling, clearly relished his time with the little boy, his third-born child with Nicole Kidman's younger sister. Hawley has been variously spotted on visits with his children during the past month, but has not been sighted with estranged wife Antonia since the birth of the couple's fourth child, Sybella, six weeks ago.
The couple's relationship is said to have broken down irreparably well before the little girl was born. Hawley's misery at the marital collapse is said to have been behind his admission to an eastern suburbs rehabilitation centre almost two months ago.
Hawley has been living with family in the eastern suburbs since the completion of his rehab treatment, while his estranged wife has been in residence at the family's $4.5million Greenwich home, located around the corner from her parents.
When pressed for a reason for the breakdown, the family source told us the couple were simply "not compatible". Hawley is said to have struggled with the spectre of fame that frequently overwhelms the family.
While photos circulated of Nicole Kidman cuddling Sybella during a cruise last week, we're informed Hawley was not on board the boat, which had been reserved for the Kidman family and new son-in-law, Keith Urban.
