Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe Split

TMZ reports. They issued this statement:

“We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time.”

Reese has already hired divorce attorney, Robert Kaufman. There has been no word on the split, but sources say it was a long time coming. There were rumors that Ryan was threatened by his wife’s career. The two recently came out as a couple on 10/17. They have been married seven years.

Sources tell TMZ Witherspoon has contacted celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley. Sources say Witherspoon spoke with Kaufman about divorcing Ryan Phillippe, her husband of seven years. The couple has two children. They met at Witherspoon's 21st birthday party.

As for why Witherspoon contacted Kaufman, we're told it was not triggered by one event. Rather, one connected source says it was "cumulative."
Divorce papers have not yet been filed.

This was really upsetting to read Many are saying that they saw this coming, so no one should be surprised -- but really, anytime a long-term marriage (7 years is an eternity by Hollywood standards these days) ends up like this...it's just sad And they were really looked up to, too, especially for starting out so young and lasting through many obstacles already *sigh*

im completely shocked about this... i know they hadnt been seen together in a while (until a recent event) but still, these two always seemed so committed and in love they came across as the real thing, love, kids etc. thought they would last the lifetime one of my fav hollywood couples.

Seriously this makes me soo sad. I love Reese and I love Ryan!

But I mean maybe this was coming, since they have the same curse as several other Hollywood couples, one of them is too popular and too huge and the other one is the not-so-famous significant other (what's up Hilary and Chad!)... But still, I'm really depressed about this. It's like I know them (although I don't)
(Plus then there's all the rumors about Ryan cheating on Reese while she's away filming, but I have always refused to believe those.)
