Pop star Britney Spears has defended photos of her holding her baby son on her lap while driving, saying she was trying to escape the paparazzi.
The singer issued the statement after several photos of the incident were circulated on the internet.
"I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us," Spears said.
The singer gave birth to her son Sean in September.
The photos show Spears driving in traffic with one arm round Sean on her lap, rather than strapped into a baby car seat, while a passenger sits next to them.
In her statement, Spears described the moments when the photographs were taken as a "horrifying, frightful encounter". Photos sold
"Because of a recent incident when I was trapped in my car without my baby by a throng of paparazzi, I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger," she said.
"I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us which were sold to the media.
"I love my child and would do anything to protect him."
In October, the singer's spokespeople said pictures of Spears and Sean, taken during a shoot, had been stolen.
They were posted on the internet but removed after she threatened legal action.
A statement at the time said use of the photos would be an "invasion of privacy".
The baby's father is dancer Kevin Federline, Spears' husband since September 2004.
Federline has two children by his ex-girlfriend, actress Shar Jackson, one of which was born after he and Spears started dating. US broadcaster NBC has clarified a press release it issued over Spears appearing in sitcom Will and Grace as a conservative Christian talkshow side-kick. Christian groups protested at the news - but NBC said it had only been confirmed that Spears was to guest star, with no further details decided.
Although the paparazzi are pretty harsh I'm sure if she would have asked kindly "can you guys gives me 4 minutes of peace in order to put my son in his car seat?" most if not all would respect that. They are human afterall.
Plus, not getting pictures of her putting her son in his car seat from won't make them lose a paycheck.
This is really crazy. She is lucky her son is okay. Even a minor fender bender is a big deal for an infant without a car seat.
Couldn't have her passenger have held him at least?

A minor fender bender can make the air bag come out. Those things come out faster than a bullet.
My 180 ppound adult brother got an airbag in the face and it bruised and burned him while also breaking his nose.
If an air bag hits a 5 month old baby his chances of survival or zilch.

No, they wouldn't have. They don't give a sh*t. They want their pictures and they want them now. You'd think most of them are human, but......
This scenerio just doesn't sound like she was trying to protect her baby, she was getting nervous and trying to protect herself....
I mean...she knows the papz will swarm her--why get the baby out of the seat in the first place?

Most celebrities say in interviews, that if you smile and let them take one picture, they leave you alone. Before the baby, Britney was always a celebrity that I respcted for doing so.
She could pose for 1 picture, cover her baby's face, and then calmly get into her car and SLOWLY drive away.
I never understand why there are car chases? Am I missing something?

Mmm Hmm....I don't doubt that Britney loves her child, yet why didn't she take the safety measures to protect her child by putting him in his car seat?
The paparazzi are a bit crazy but they are not gun totting outlaws. What was she protecting Sean from...a flashing light? She thought protecting him was to put his fragile body between her and a steering wheel that can trigger off an air bag?
Come on Britney, its one thing when you dress like a hobo and refuse to comb your ratty hair, those things can be forgivable with time (haha) but its quite another when you act like a dumbass and put not only your child in danger but everyone else who is on the road.
Lastly her story of being terrified holds no weight when looking at one of the pictures and shes cheesing. (see below) I wouldn't even doubt if she was just cruising along and the paps happened to catch her driving with Sean on her lap or perhaps she thought it would make a good photo op Ya'll.

What does MJ mean? Sorry, I'm behind on the times.
I believe she is referring to Michael Jackson.
