What anime do you love to watch? Monster, Spirited Away
What manga do you love to read? Hmm, don't read manga anymore but I used to read Ranma 1/2 a lot in middle school.
What do you recommend? Monster but it's only been shown in Japan so far though you can download it using bit torrent.
What's the first one you saw/read? Sailor Moon? Haha.

I have pretty mixed feelings about anime...either it has a really interesting/unique storyline with fantastic visuals or it's just crap. I've seen way too many crappy animes with horrible, nonsensical storylines and terrible art to say I'm a "fan" but there are definitely some animes I do like a lot.

Grave of the fireflies ~a must watch
The first anime in my life was Sailor Moon series. I don't recommend it though, others are way better. After watching a lot of anime I'm deeply in love with Hayao Miyazaki's works. He's amazing!!
Nausicaa
Laputa
Mononoke hime
Tonari no totoro
Pom Poko
Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi
Hauru no ugoku shiro
...
..

As weird as it may sound, I don't quite like anime but at the same time I like mangas...
As for my faves:

- Kozure ôkami (Kazuo Koike - Goseki Kojima) [a.k.a. Lone wolf & Cub]
- Hoero pen (Kazuhiko Shimamoto)
- Kimi wa pet (Yayoi Ogawa)
- Rupan sensei (Monkey Punch) [a.k.a. Lupin the 3rd - btw, here's a good example of what I was saying: imho this manga is a BILLION times better than the anime made after it...]
- Crying Freeman (Kazuo Koike - Ryoichi Ikegami) [first manga I read, many years ago...I'd also suggest Sanctuary, again by Ikegami, though with dialogues by Sho Fumimura]
- Nisenichiya monogatari (Yukinobu Hoshino) [a.k.a. 2001 nights]

And I'm also a big fan of Tsukasa Hojo (Cat's eye, City Hunter, Family compo), Naoki Urasawa (Monster, 20th Century boys), Jiro Taniguchi (Chichi no koyomi, Aruko hito), Minetaro Mochizuki (Dragon Head, Zashiki onna), Tsutomu Takahashi (Sky high, Jiraishin)...and many more!

Too bad italian publishers don't import many seinen/lady, but mostly shônen/shôjo... (I'm way too old to appreciate most of those... )

Thanks for posting everyone!

Sailor Moon was the first anime I ever saw too. I still like it, but it's been ages since I've seen it. I also like InuYasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho and quite a few others I can't remember the names of. I've seen Dragon Ball Z a million times as well.

For manga I like Othello and Bleach. I want to get a few others, but it's hard to get the first volumes here if I can get the series at all.

I have watched/read a lot, those were part of my childhood!

I still love everything done by Hayao Miyazaki, I even visted his art museum - Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan. Anyone who loves Hayao Miyazaki's work should visit if you have a chance to visit Tokyo!

Doraemon is also a classic!

Lately I love One Piece!

I used to be a huge anime fan, but now that I have less free time, I'm still a fan, but I'm behind the times..

What anime do you love to watch?
Anything by Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli is pure magic. My favorite is Nausicaa.

What manga do you love to read?
A number of CLAMP works: Magic Knight Rayearth, X-1999, Clover <-- lovely and fantastic with a very noir-like feel, one of my enduring favorites, etc. I also love to read Detective Conan (English title: Case Closed) - in Chinese though - it's cheaper and easier to find that way. Though it does get formulaic after a while. Also, Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa manga is gorgeous, and goes far beyond the movie. I read Kare Kano for a while before it changed and didn't suit my taste anymore. I also like a few dark, interesting titles like Petshop of Horrors and Doll.

What do you recommend?
See above titles.

What's the first one you saw/read?
I've been watching Ghibli movies since I was around 5 years old? The first one I watched that really got me into anime was Sailor Moon, though, lol.

As you can see, there aren't any newer titles like Naruto or FMA (actually, those are kind of "old" now too, aren't they? )
