it's not enough that some supermodels suggest bathing exclusively in evian.
now the world-famous water brand has commissioned couturier christian lacroix to customise its packaging. the designer not only created a 'couture bottle' of which only 99 are being released in the first quarter of 2008, he's also come up with a more affordable 'prêt-à-porter' version. each couture bottle has been hand-blown by glass artisans in switzerland, and is individually numbered. while the prêt-à-porter versions, as you'd expect, are very much off the factory belt. the couture bottles have been displayed at exclusive outlets throughout the world including collette in paris and xxx in new york and, as part of a worldwide initiative, are being auctioned off at charity fundraising events including australia's silver party to be hosted in late february 2008, which will raise monies for the sydney children's hospital. see? water can have healing properties.
i think it's pretty interesting though... especially the couture bottles, since they're actually made by skilled artisans and are being auctioned off to raise funds for charity. sure, it's laughable that a couturier repackaged a water bottle. but it's purpose of being is not completely 'pointless'...
Well, I think it's a bit silly for a designer to become involved in packaging water, regardless of where the funds go. If you really want to donate to charity, I can assure you that there are better ways to go about it than to buy a bottle of liquid.
I like the RTW one. I would buy it just to save the bottle but I haven't seen it anywhere. Do you know where it's sold? Honestly i think the HC one is like a cross between an ugly crystal kitschy doll and a religious icon. If I wanted to give $1400 to charity I wouldn't use that bottle to do it.
eta: I noticed the bottle says 2008. Does that mean they're going to have a series of these?
