Latest enhancement to tFS ... an illustration tool! Link can be found on the tFS Home Page.

If you look to the left side, you will see uploading and downloading links, so you can also use your own personal designs and photos. Thought it might be of interest to many of you who like to draw and design.

Nah, you won't get the same personal feel with a tablet and photoshop that you do with pen and paper. So if you feel better with a pen or pencil, don't scrap it because your father wants you to keep up with the times

However, Photoshop can be a great post-production tool, scan your illustrations and colour them and clean them up in photoshop. My 0,02$ anyhow.

I was always thinking the same thing, that I need to start drawing on the computer to keep up with the industry and technology

but suprisingly (to me at least) I am working in the industry now and everything at my company is done with pen and paper! the illustrations are done on paper with markers and the flats are rendered by hand then inked with pen later.

while it is definately worth knowing how to use computer programs for drawing (especially if that is the look and style you like) don't give up plain paper and pencil!

indeed
even Karl Lagerfeld draws his couture collection by hand.

they have their pros and cons, i think it all depends on whats more comfortable for you.
for me i prefer hand

i feel kind of nervous now because i've just started learning (by myself) about fashion illustration and planning to made a portfolio for my school project (very soon)...and i haven't had much practice/experience with it before!

i really do want to use copic markers because i know they are extremely good (but very expensive!), is it worth it since i am only a beginner?

The Ultimate Fashion Book

well guys, I'm looking for such kind of book with mainly illustration/ photos/ drafts. I wanna give it to my cousin as a gift. She might find it usefull as an inspirational foundation for her fashion studies in VN.

You can recommend me one?

Fashion Illustration Next by Laird Borrelli is great, we all used it in a fashion design course I took last summer. Fashion Design Drawing Course by Caroline Tatham and Julian Seaman is also good. The latter focuses on the basics of how to begin illustrating yourself, whereas the former concentrates on examples presented by theme, brand, time period, etc.

If you're looking for a technical art book on illustration as it pertains to fashion, then 9 Heads is the way to go. The two I previously listed are much more fun to look at and more basic than the extensive 9 Heads.

Thank you

I'll see if those books are here
What I'd love is a book that shows you how to do textures, rendering materials...

Back in high school I worked for a commercial who had a giant textbook called the Famous Artist course
(I don't think you can buy it)
and there was a section on fashion illustration
using crayon to render a rough fabric.. like a wool knit (drawing the Vs)
and how to create velvet and satin with gouache

Croquis-types of templates

I was wondering what types of templates work best for designing clothing? Do most designers use a finished croquis? IE: makeup, hair, skin tone? Or is it easier to draw clothing on one that is basic and black and white, mainly for the silhouette?

I would also like to ask if Prismacolor is the best marker to use.
