Yinka Shonibare

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share this artist called Yinka Shonibare, who i first discovered in research for an Art project on class and hierachy. I posted it in "Ethnic Fashion" but I believe its Art as apposed to fashion.

On closer inspection of his work especially on one called the masked ball, his work does allude to several questions on race, identity, slavery, current and post colonial attitudes, in a subtle way that is fascinating to view

I admire his work! I remember seeing his installation, "The Swing" (from Fragonard) that he did in 2004.
It does raise many questions with references to culture (classical Europe and Africa) but is indeed fascinating to look at.

oo that was an eye opener, hilarious abt the african batik and the whole idea of authenticity being something we create lol thanks i watched the whole of it
