i totally agree with whizkit about singapore's street style.
even the flea markets here in spore sell the same stuff as each other cos there are only so many places to buy our clothes etc from, discounting the web of course.
i'm always lamenting the lack of seasons, which in a way constricts us with playing with more styles.
i guess one word to describe our style is laidback and very casual.

don't people in Hong Kong generally dress like Japanese people or Japanese wanna-bes... that is my impression..

Huh? I think Hong Kong, along with Korea, has it's own distinct street style. I actually prefer the street style of HK and Korea to the Japanese street styles because a lot of Japanese street styles is a bit over the top to me

the style i see the most here as far as men's fashion goes is either that "ethnic" look of some kind of patterned vest, an oversize t-shirt, and those horrible pants where they start out really baggy in the thighs then taper heavily from the knees down, and bootleg Birkenstocks. The other extreme is the constantly updated skate/hip hop look which consists of the latest graphic tees from brands such as Bathing Ape/a variety of similar new Japanese street fashion brands ... which literally come out EVERY week with new prints, some baggy Levi's and expensive limited edition sneakers. The latter style I mention requires a lot of money to keep up with, although I'm not really a fan of it as it looks quite shapeless and dull.

^ soMe of the Malaysian youths arr starting to dress the same way, I was there in December 05 whilst they where on their holidays and they all had the same mulletish mohawk hair cut, dyed in the same sorta colours. nn they all dressed in the same sorta outfits. I remember one day it must have been like almost 30 degrees celcius n they where wearing oversized sweaters with major layering!!! I just don't understand!!!

The other day, I saw a guy in a shopping centre, wearing a parka jacket with fur trim hood! In Singapore!!!!!

i dont think there's anything wrong with wanting to wear a fur trimmed coat? weather shouldnt be the deciding factor in the way we dress. i guess some ppl just like experimentation?

Hong Kong's street style is totally not worth appreciation. Hong Kong teenagers blindly praise those stupid Japanese brand like Bape, Undercover, Number (N)ine and Comme des Garcons. They just have Japnese brand in their minds. It is really stupid. You can see Bape all around. There are so many idiot with a whole outfit of Bape. What they think is Japanese brand is the most fashionable and trendy. And they are always with only LV and Gucci bags. They even haven't heard about Mulberry or BV. I am really desperate to see the so-called Japanses style.

Actually, the problem I had was not so much with the fur trim, it was wearing a filled parka jacket in a tropical climate. I think that's the ridiculous part. The airconditioning wasn't even that strong. As crazy as wearing bikini in winter. I mean, that wasn't even experimentation, it was lifting a temperate look into a tropical context.

I think climate is a primary factor in deciding how we dress.

yea i guess dressing in a fur coat is a little too extreme for the wheather in sg. but currently from what i've observed, a whole lot of girls all going for the vintage look and also the kate moss/ sienna miller look.

Well, teen street style is significantly different than women's street style. In my opinion, teen street style consists of brightly layered tops and baggy jeans with girl's BAPE shoes. They follow Japanese trends almost cultishly
Well, I personally do like Undercover, Number (N)ine and CDG, but not because they are Japanese. Some people just go for what's "trendy".
I used to see many LV and Gucci bags but now women in HK have branched out into "Hollywood" style IT bags like the paddington. Teens use mostly cute little logo bags, whereas women buy the "it" bags.
