I don't understand why we need a plus sized style thread... Style can also be found on a "smaller" person, and be adapted to any body size. Also, i don't mean to offend anyone, but I do not think it is OK to say ( even though it is true )that the average american woman is a size 12. It sounds like an excuse, and if anything, it should open our eyes to what is going on with our society. We now have these 2 extremes, either size 00 or size 12. What happened to a healthy size in between these two??

Size 12 seems like a pretty healthy size to me. It seems like some people's idea of what is healthy and what is not on this board is incredibly warped because they look at supermodels all day and think that is an ideal/normal weight.
I think that a size 12 is healthy and normal, but I don't think that it's healthy for it to be the AVERAGE size of an American woman, considering that less than 50 years ago, the average was much smaller.
Regardless, if you don't like this thread, then please don't come here just to say that you don't! The mods have already decided that this stays, so what's the point of complaining. It's about street style, not about what your opinions on plus sizes are.
Sorry if that sounded bitchy, but it really annoys me when people get ont he subject of weight, because everyone thinks that they know what they're talkign about. Take it from someone who's struggled with weight for a long time both personally and within my family (my mother was morbidly obese and had gastric bypass surgery), it's not as simple as you think it is. It's a complicated matter, and it's very personal.

Exactly. This is not the appropriate thread for discussion on what is/isn't healthy, normal, etc.
I think some of us just want to see pics and talk about what we love/hate about how people who look a little more like us are dressed. It's a style thread afterall.

Wow this thread generated some pretty intense responses. I think the thread should exist. Its nice to see some of these clothes on larger bodies, it gives you an idea of how you might look wearing it if you're not a size zero. Of course one could adapt skinny people's clothing to a larger size, but you really can feel a bit alienated when you're not a size zero and you're looking at skinny girls all the time.
Its a little more all inclusive that's all...perhaps its the name of the thread that people object to...
i brought the issue of this thread to our mod team, if they give the all clear, it stays or else we'll have to close..
agreed with susie that vintage styles look great on plus sized girls, mainly because up until mid sixties, fuller women were thought as fab.. fashion was based on a fuller figure woman, who was thought as totally sexy and stylish.
Are you talking about such style and beauty icons as Marilyn Monroe? Because although she was larger than models today, she still has the basic desirable body type. It's easy to make that body type attractive in clothing, but not so easy if you have a shape that is larger in the mid-section, for example. That has never been considered "fab" by developed societies.

There's no such thing as a "healthy" size. It changes per person. Not to mention it makes a difference a woman's height. A woman wh is 6'0 and a size 12 will be far thinner than a woman who is 5'0 and a size 12.
