Fashion Summer Jobs

I'm starting this thread because I would like to know your opinion on what kind of summerjobs can someone who's willing to study fashion design get, that would avail the CV or simply would be good experience for the future.

What sort of experience do you have, if any? If you don't have much... I guess the easiest (and perhaps the most obvious) at this point is to be a sales assistant at a clothing store? Or interning for free (there's heaps of threads on this and one main thread on it) but obviously there'll be no money involved (except for very very rare cases, and they are very competitive to get into and you'll need a lot of experience to do them as well).

yeah, that's right, I know I can't expect to get much money. I have no experience on the business by now, but I would like to start this summer something that would make my CV more inviting. Tough I find sales assistance pretty obvious like you said, probably it will be it

I'm working at a modeling camp this year. Even though it is a camp, they have designers and speakers that come in to talk to the girls and I think it's a good way to kind of get contacts and also learn.
And also keep in mind that your summer job doesn't have to be directly related to/ or have to deal with fashion to get into the fashion industry in terms of jobs. Look for possibly summer journalism jobs, maybe writing for a local paper or in a floral shop, etc. This way if your into the magazine aspect you get writing experience, and if your into the design aspect you get a type of design experience that may be helpful for you.

You never know when these skills will come in handy in a later job so don't shut things out if they aren't exactly what you're looking for. Be open and people will become open to you leading to many opportunities.

^well said superbeautiful
you can't really start at the top, so if you get an internship that isn't exactly what you want just focus on doing your best and to get the most out of it because it will definately come in handy later

We have a thread for Internships and Work Experience and you can ask your question there. This thread is for paying jobs.
