Just to point out - the Filenes Basement men's store on Needham St. in Newton can occassionally have great stuff. Not many men shop there, just Newton women shopping for their husbands (Zegna =( old Polo =( so I've found some really cute men's clothing their for cheap. Besides the boots, I once found like 50 different Prada ties on clearence for $5 each - the skinny cute ones.
It's a hit-or-miss.
But my Mom also found a David Yurman bracelet at the women's store across the street for $40..
the new mango store is finally open in the prudential mall. its a pretty small store. it seems like they had a lot of the lower priced TRF branded items when i went in there briefly rather than the big ticket dresses etc.
Sales tax holiday: August 16 and 17, 2008.
Most purchases made by individuals on items for personal use costing $2,500 or less will not be subject to Massachusetts sales or use tax.
First, BU is great! You'll love it. Second, what's your typical style? There are different kinds of stores to satisfy different tastes, so if I know yours I can send you to more specific stores.

I'm open to anything, but vintage is definitely one of my top priorities. I guess anything channeling a sophisticated but fun look... something that screams, Yeah - I'm a broke college student, but still fashionable. Haha.
Hm, I don't know too much about the women's vintage stores. I've heard good things about The Closet and Second Time Around, although they are really consignment. Some good vintage finds may be there, so they're worth checking out. They're both on Newbury Street.
For authentic vintage, there is Bobby's. it is heavily male-oriented, but there is a women's section and it isn't bad. If I'm not mistaken, there are other vintage retailers in that area. Bobby's is in the South End.
