I've only been to fashion weekend once, years ago, and it was just okay. Glad to hear it's improved. The one good thing I got there though was a beautiful scarf on the cheap and a clements ribeiro chiffon apron dress for sixty quid, marked down from 380.

Ditto, Meg. My local vintage shops (though not in the UK, I imagine it is the same over there) have loads of "Hermès Kellys" and they even have all labels etc, however, they are knock-offs. When buying designer bags from a vintage store, I guess the best way is to a.) know exactly what a real version of the bag in question looks like, down to stitching and every little last detail, which often include some kind of a signature style, and b.) use common sense. For example, with Hermès - who gives them to vintage shops?! They are usually passed down in the family or auctioned, not sold to vintage sellers. Always be alert and suspect everything.
I have some questions...
a.) is there a place in London that sells more cheaper vintage? I don't have hundreds of pounds to spend on vintage - but neither am I looking for museum pieces. Is there any store that sells old clothing at reasonable prices? Not designer clothing, but just vintage clothing, clothing from decades past?
b.) what happens to the outdoor markets in the winter? For example Portobello Road Market - are there any sellers in the winter or do they move to somewhere warmer&less wet? I am going to London this February and would love to visit markets again for vintage costume jewellery - but are there any markets actively selling pieces during that time of the season?
c.) what are the best markets for cheap vintage costume jewellery & vintage accessories?
d.) which markets are worse than their reputation says? In other words, which markets are just there to attract tourists?
e.) just suggest all kinds of little UK-specific boutiques and shops, please. I would love to find more small and personal shopping spots in London.
Thank you for help
