Selena Gomez Just Inked a $10 Million Deal With Coach

After a months-long social media and general life detox, Selena Gomez is back doing those things celebs do best — slaying red carpet appearances and trying her hand at fashion design. As part of its much-publicized rebranding effort, Coach has announced Instagram’s most-followed user as the newest face of the brand. She’ll reportedly design her own capsule collection (no word yet as to whether it’ll include accessories, ready-to-wear, apothecary or all of the above). Given Gomez’s 104 million-strong fanbase, the Revival singer and former Louis Vuitton muse did not come cheap. Rumor has it the deal cost the American heritage label around $10 million. (She wastes no time, that one.)

Under executive creative director Stuart Vevers (who famously outfitted Ashley Graham for her Vogue UK cover), the former prep peddler has adopted a fashion-forward, downtown chic vibe. Just last week, Coach fêted its 75th anniversary with a massive celeb-studded blowout. (Style icons like Emma Roberts, Riley Keough, Rowan Blanchard and Zoe Kravitz were among those in attendance.) Now known for its carefully crafted outerwear (Kim Kardashian’s a fan) and Americana-inspired pieces, Coach’s rockabilly, cool-girl style fits Selena to a T. Selena’s been in the design game for years, so we’re confident she’ll nail it. After all, she is the millennial whisperer.

Update: December 23, 2016

Brace yourselves for disappointment. Contrary to first-out-of-the-gate reports, Selena will not be designing a full-fledged fashion line for Coach, but rather a single piece, due out this fall. “I am so excited to work with Coach and love the clothes and accessories designed by Stuart Vevers,” the singer stated in a press release. “Collaborating on a piece with Stuart for next fall makes this beyond special to me,” she added. Based on Selena’s recent Instagram post, we’re betting it’s a clutch.
