Just like nearsightedness, long legs and red hair run in the family, so does fashion. Some of the industry's vets who have made names for themselves bring their children along for the ride. And we don't blame them–fashion is a very difficult industry to gain access to, so if a little help from a blood relative helps get your foot in the door, why not embrace it?
These nine mother-daughter teams certainly have. Besides good looks and natural talent, these mothers passed down a love of fashion to their daughters, all of whom have pursued careers in the industry. So, in honor of Mother's Day (which is this Sunday), we wanted to pay tribute to moms (like mine!) whose careers in and love of fashion have helped pave the way for their daughters.
Pandora & Cara Delevingne
These days, we're used to seeing Cara's face absolutely everywhere. But her mother, British socialite Pandora, also has fashion roots–she's a personal shopper at Selfridges, with a roster of high-roller clients.
Isabella Rossellini and Elettra Weidemann
Model/actress Isabella Rossellini captured hearts everywhere as the face of Lancôme. Her daughter Elettra clearly inherited some good genes from her mom, as she's modeled for Abercrombie & Fitch, and also Lancôme–just like her mommy.
Kristen & Lily McMenamy
Kristen McMenamy made a name for herself in the 80s and 90s, modeling for top fashion houses like Chanel, Valentino, Versace and more. Her daughter Lily's also enjoying a sweet little career in modeling, having walked for houses like Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel, as well as appearing in campaigns for Marc Jacobs and in editorials for Harper's Bazaar, V magazine and many others.
Carine Roitfeld & Julia Restoin-Roitfeld
One of fashion's most formidable mother-daughter duos is Carine Roitfeld and her daughter Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. Carine's one of the most influential editors and stylists in the industry, having served as editor-in-chief of French Vogue, later going on to helm her own publication, C.R. Fashionbook and lend her talents to Harper's Bazaar as global fashion editor. Her daughter, Julia, is also a creative director, with a client list boasting names like Jean Paul Gaultier, Miu Miu, Theory, Zac Posen, Alexander Wang, Eddie Borgo, and many more.
Katie Holmes & Suri Cruise
Before Suri checked into elementary school, tabloids and fashion folks alike were buzzing about her wardrobe, which included pieces from Giorgio Armani, Chloé, Burberry, and more. It's easy to see where she got her love of expensive clothes from. Her mother, actress Katie Holmes, was at the helm of her own now-defunct label, Holmes & Yang.
Cyrinda Foxe-Tyler & Mia Tyler
You might best know Cyrinda Foxe from her role in Andy Warhol's 1977 flick, Bad. She married Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and their daughter, Mia, has done plenty of modeling work herself. She's fronted campaigns for H&M and Lane Bryant.
Yasmin & Amber Le Bon
Amber Le Bon definitely has some big shoes to fill, considering her mother was a former Guess? girl...and a Christian Dior, Chanel and more recently, Moschino girl. Amber's been pretty successful herself, posing for American Vogue, and fronting ads for Fausto Puglisi and Smashbox, as well as walking the runway for Chanel.
Jerry Hall & Georgia May Jagger
Georgia May Jagger's following in the footsteps of her model mum in a huge way. Jagger recently inked a deal to be the face of Thierry Mugler's 'Angel' fragrance. Her mother, Jerry Hall, fronted the same campaign 19 years ago.
Victoria & Harper Beckham
Harper Beckham might not yet be able to tie her shoes, but she's already got impressive ties in the fashion industry, thanks to her mom Victoria, who runs the very successful Victoria Beckham label. The tot famously made Anna Wintour smile at her mother's Spring 2014 runway presentation. If the fashion gods are smiling on her now, you can be bet they still will be once she's all grown up.
