8 Reasons Eggs Are the Ultimate Breakfast Food

We all know by now that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But that doesn’t stop nearly three million Australians from skipping it, with the majority of us claiming we don’t have enough time. We get it — it’s hard enough to get out of bed, let alone conjure up the brain power to decide what you should be cooking for a solid and productive day.

If you’re not already an avid egg-lover, you’re about to be. Our friends over at the Egg Nutrition Council helped us understand why eggs are the ultimate breakfast food, giving us eight simple reasons why eggs should be your go-to for kick-starting the day. There’s more to these protein-rich foods than you might think.

Eggs Have the Highest Nutritional Quality Protein

Of all the food options you could possibly choose in this world, eggs have the highest nutritional quality protein. So, if you’ve got great bone health and your tissues are able to repair themselves quickly, you’ve got eggs to thank.

Eggs Keep You Fuller for Longer

Is it lunchtime yet? This is a question we all seem to ask well before the clock hits midday. If you’re a breakfast-skipper, then you’ll know exactly why you’re craving a snack. But for all those who did the right thing and ate in the morning, perhaps you chose the wrong food. If you opted for eggs, you’re laughing, because you haven’t even thought about a snack since brekky.

Eggs Aid Weight Management

As mentioned above, eggs fill you up. That means you’re reducing your kilojoule intake when it comes to lunch and dinner.

Eggs Don’t Have Those Suspected Hidden Risks

According to the Australian Dietary Guidelines, eggs can be eaten daily without increasing the risk of coronary heart disease. They also have little to no affect on cholesterol.

Eggs Aren’t Expensive

Compared to other protein-rich foods like fish and red meat, eggs are budget-friendly. When you’re buying them in packs of six or 12, the price per egg really doesn’t hurt the bank, now does it?

Eggs Are Versatile

Scrambled, poached, boiled or baked. The ways to cook eggs are almost limitless, which is a good thing when you’ve got seven days in a week. Why not mix things up and have an omelette? Heck, throw some veggies in there while you’re at it.

Eggs Are Quick and Easy to Prepare

When you’re cooking eggs on toast, more often than not your egg is done before the toast is even ready. That’s really not very long at all (unless you like your bread nice and black). So, for all those people missing out on breakfast because they’re lacking precious time, well, they might want to think up a different excuse.

Eggs Are an Ideal Whole Food Option

Whole foods are those closest to their natural state. This includes eggs, of course, as well as veggies, lean red meat and unprocessed fruit. Research shows that diets including more whole foods result in higher nutrient intake and an increased quantity of antioxidants.
