How I Got to Be…with Pari Dust’s Pari Ehsan

tFS: What shoot are you most proud of?

PE: One of my favorites was the shoot I did in Tom Wesselmann‘s studio, just because they let me see the catalog of his works and brought them out of storage for me. I got to pick which pieces I wanted to shoot, which was really special. And working in the intimacy of his studio was incredible. It made me want to go into artists’ studios more to explore how a person’s environment influences their work.

tFS: What’s your advice for people who want to make a living as a blogger?

PE: It’s so important to find your niche and to not imitate what’s already out there. Also, I think there’s a push to create more and more. But it’s important to only put out something that you would want to see yourself, something that brings value.

tFS: Are big art festivals like Frieze or Art Basel your Fashion Week?

PE: Exactly! It’s very intense. You run around all day and don’t stop. There’s always gallery openings surrounding the fair openings surrounding the museum openings. It’s nonstop, but it’s fun and I love it.

tFS: What’s next for you?

PE: I’m collaborating with Van Cleef & Arpels at the Cooper Hewitt. They’re hosting their first jewelry design workshop outside of Paris, so I’m going to be attending and seeing the process behind making the jewelry. I’ll also be shooting while I’m there. I love jewelry. It’s art on a micro level.

tFS: Looking back, would you do anything different?

PE: I would have loved to start Pari Dust sooner! But I’m thankful that I had the courage to start it when I did.
