Mimi Elashiry isn’t your average Instagram sensation. Rather than simply taking selfies and splashing out sponsored posts, the 20-year-old Aussie has capitalised on her major social media following by creating her very own swimwear line, Cheeky Swim, among her other pursuits like being a dancer, presenter and model.

With Cheeky Swim launching into Glue Stores nationally this week, we caught up with the multifaceted boho babe to talk about her design venture, how Instagram has opened doors for her and her plans to move to The Big Apple next year.

Although Mimi admits to theFashionSpot that she hasn’t always necessarily wanted to design swimwear, she does reveal that she’s always had a “knack” for designing, thanks to sitting with her mum as she was making her dance consumes.

Swimwear is the avenue she decided to take because of how much the beach is part of her lifestyle. “Seeing as I spend a lot of time at the beach and I love being in coastal areas, I think it was naturally the right path for me to go down as it’s something I’m constantly involved in. It’s something that’s a part of my everyday life.”

Mimi isn’t blind to how her Instagram presence has opened up this door for her, though, and has made sure that her 16-piece range will please her followers. “It’s really important to engage with all different aspects of my followers through the swimwear range, because without them I wouldn’t have been able to create a swimwear range,” she says, noting that styles cater for her main target market, 14-25 year olds.

She also believes that her social media success has allowed her modelling career to take off, something that has been a struggle in the past because of her height. When she got signed with NEXT Model Management in LA last year, she says it was a “pinch me” moment which motivated her to keep charging forward with her expression of individuality through Instagram.

Although she’s got a lot going on right now on home soil in Australia, Mimi tells us that next year she’ll be relocating to New York to reconnect with her first love: dancing.

“I need to chase my passion and I think I need to reiterate that to my fans as well because that’s something that’s really important. When you lose touch with that it really starts to affect you.” She continues, “Everything’s really amazing and I’m so grateful but there’s just that one little thing.”

Mimi will be meeting fans at Glue Store Bondi Junction this Saturday, October 10, from 1 p.m to 2.30 p.m.
