Australian footwear brand Sol Sana has been spreading its retail portfolio and presence far and wide since it launched in 2011, thanks in no part to the fashion, marketing and sales know-how of founder and creative director Sara Caverley.

Hot off the heels of its brand new e-commerce store, adding to the international retailers the local label is stocked in like Nordstrom, Shopbop, Revolve and The Iconic, we caught up with the footwear whiz to find out a little more about the brains behind the business. 

  1. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is… Reach for my phone to check my emails and social media.
  2. I’d never leave home without… My phone. (Issues!)
  3. An average day for me looks like… Hectic! Usually a mix of meetings, castings, Skype calls, trend research and putting some design ideas to paper.
  4. If I could describe my personal style in three words they would be… Minimalistic, oversized and chic.
  5. If I’ve learned one thing about the fashion industry over the years it’s that… It’s nothing like it appears from the outside.

  6. The hardest thing about starting your own company is… Knowing where to start.
  7. I am inspired by… Everything! Travel, vintage, people watching.
  8. The most exciting stockist I’ve landed is definitely… I would have to say Nordstrom, David Jones or Shopbop.
  9. An international market I’d love to crack is… The Asian market is pretty new for us but we have some exciting things in the pipeline.
  10. The most exciting celebrity I’ve seen in Sol Sana is… Gigi Hadid or Miley Cyrus.
  11. One celeb who is perfectly suited for a pair of Sol Sanas is… Olivia Palermo.
  12. One thing I’ve never done but would still love to do is… See the Northern Lights.
  13. For my business, fashion bloggers are… Crucial.
  14. My background in sales helps me now because… I really have an understanding on how that side of the business operates and what tools our sales team requires to succeed.
  15. My major tip when purchasing footwear would have to be… Fit! If they don’t fit you perfectly you will be less likely to get the wear out of them.
  16. If I wasn’t designing shoes I would be… Probably still in wholesale fashion sales.
  17. My favourite thing about living in Sydney is… The weather! Love me some sun.
  18. If I could live anywhere else in the world it would be… Easy. New York.
  19. The biggest pinch me moment I ever had was… Seeing Sol Sana in US Vogue.
  20. One thing people don’t know about me is… I dance like Elaine from Seinfeld when I have had a few drinks.
  21. The best life advice I’ve ever received was… “If you find a job you love, you will never work another day in your life.”
