Catherine Malandrino Fall 2011 Runway Review

Catherine Malandrino’s shows are always styled to perfection and this season was no exception with hats, gloves, jewelry, eyewear, and shoes all coming together seamlessly to complement the designer’s contemporary looks. Fur and leather were bountiful making for some gorgeous outwear and wraps and giving the collection a mix of high-octane glamour and the effortlessly cool aesthetic Malandrino herself exudes.

With some of the models toting a python bag with “New York” written on one side and “Paris” written on the other, it was clear that Malandrino was playing off the signature styles of each of the fashion capitals making for a true day-to-night lineup.

That said, there were some more daring choices that would be hard to pull off even in New York or Paris – by day or by night – and they included a fishnet cutout-like gown and a sheer knit hooded dress.

Fashion capitals aside, wide collar jackets, loose and high waist pants, and draped monochromatic gowns gave the collection just the right amount of 70s flair, while pleated and patterned skirts, tees, hooded tops, and knit sweaters will give Malandrino’s customer plenty of covetable everyday finds to go along with some of the stunning furs presented this season.
