You never want your makeup to match your clothes. Instead, the cosmetics colors you choose should complement whatever is on your body.
This rule is especially true of mustard yellow, a hot fashion hue this fall.
"The woman who is wearing mustard is bold and wants to be a trendsetter," says Sarah Lucero, head of education and artistry for Stila Cosmetics. "When you're wearing mustard, the fabric is usually opaque and pretty strong. With your makeup, your best bet is to keep it matte - matte makeup with matte fabrics."
Lucero said she would start with an oil-free foundation that provides full coverage without weight. You'd want to cover up any redness so it doesn't compete with the mustard, especially if you're wearing the yellow anywhere near the face, she explains.
"You want the skin to look flawless."
Lucero's other tips:
-Eyes: The base should be warm, neutral shadows, perhaps a sandy color all over the lid and then add a contouring shade of brown. Make sure the brown has a yellow undertone instead of a plum, Lucero advises.
