The line on clutches was pretty much that they were only safe to use at night.

Minaudiere styles by Bottega Veneta and Judith Leiber showed up in hand of every fashionista on red carpets. Now bigger is better, as oversized clutches which first started appearing on runways last fall and on celebs like Mary Kate Olsen, Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss are making their way into the mainstream. Oversized clutches are a great way to bring sophistication and individuality to any outfit.

The great thing about the newer styles is they can hold everything you need with extra compartments.  Some come with straps or can expand to a larger size, and you can find cheaper versions at vintage stores, retailers like H&M and Urban Outfitters, or on eBay.
