I'm not saying that Kim Kardashian didn't look great in the same midriff-baring Spring 2012 Emilio Pucci (http://www.thefashionspot.com/runway-news/news/169320-emilio-pucci-spring-2012-runway-review/?slide=9) dress Gwyneth Paltrow wore to the 2011 Emmy Awards (http://www.thefashionspot.com/celebrity-fashion/news//169174/?slide=15) — she did! The reality star has really stepped up her style ever since she started dating the fashion-conscious Kanye West. Last night at Cannes was no different: Kardashian looked glamorous, sexy, and even tasteful. And it's a treat to see how well the garment works on the two very different women: Kardashian and Paltrow don't just have dissimilar figures, they're also polar opposites in terms of public persona.

But Paltrow's Emmy look was one of the most talked about red carpet moments of the past year — did Kardashian really not know she was copy-catting? There are millions of other beautiful dresses in the world (even some from the same Pucci collection!) and if you're going to be one of the most-photographed women in the world, you could at least try to wear something less recognizable.

Following on the heels of Vogue.com's successful livestream of the Met Gala (http://www.thefashionspot.com/celebrity-fashion/news/173751-met-gala-2012-red-carpet-recap/) earlier this month, another Conde Nast web property, Style.com, is gearing up to broadcast this year's CFDA Awards.
WWD reports (http://www.wwd.com/media-news/fashion-memopad/live-from-the-cfda-awards-5925414?module=hp-media) that Style.com staffers will be documenting the June 4 ceremony via social media as it happens, but the broadcast itself won't be available online until the following day. The two-pronged approach seems designed to draw attention to the full spectrum of Style.com's online presence.
The broadcast will combine red carpet entrances (contributing editor Tim Blanks will appear carpet-side on the site's behalf), interviews, and "other exclusives."
I'm guessing that Style.com will mix in plenty of documentary footage from past awards: the website recently got access to the CFDA Awards' archives, and has been running highlights (http://www.style.com/trendsshopping/stylenotes/051412_CFDA_Highlights/) in anticipation of this year's ceremony.

Sorry about calling them "spawn." I was just trying to get your attention. "Progeny" seemed staid; "heaven-sent bundles of hope and joy" doesn't really work in a headline.
Anyway, today we got some news updates concerning the procreative statuses of two of the world's top supermodels, Sasha Pivovarova and Gisele Bundchen.
First order of business: IMG Models posted the photo on the right to their Facebook page. That's Sasha P. holding her newborn infant, just over a week old and already a better smizer than anyone that's ever stepped foot on an America's Next Top Model set. The Moscow-born model chose to name her beam of baby bliss Mia Isis, weirdly. You know how unnatural it seems when a French person says "McDonalds?" It's the same thing with "Isis" in Russian — no rolling-off-the-tongue happening with that name.
Second item: megamodel Gisele Bundchen may or may not be pregnant with her second tender babe. According to the Brazilian magazine Época, the model shared the news with Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci (he dressed her for IMG Models Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/IMGModels), Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2148628/Are-Gisele-Bundchen-Tom-Brady-expecting-second-child-Rumours-emerge-supermodel-pregnant-again.html)]

Oy vey Lindsey Wixson. If I could give young women all across the world one piece of advice, it would probably be: stop worrying so much about what other people think of you. But if I could give a second piece of advice, it would definitely be: don't make-out in front of Terry Richardson.
Your favorite creeper dropped what he was doing (stalking Lady Gaga across Asia (http://www.thefashionspot.com/buzz-news/gossip-and-news/173895-lady-gagas-indonesian-concert-permit-was-denied)) to photograph the young model making out with a mysterious boy named "Connor" in a park at night. It's fa-fa-fa-FASHION because Wixson's wearing an entire tube's worth of red lipstick, which she edgily smears across her admirer's face. It's pretty gross. If you've ever wondered why they call it "eating face" look no further.
So, who's the lucky so-and-so that gets to make-out with a supermodel? One Mr. Connor Lang (https://twitter.com/#!/ConnorLang1) has been Tweeting plenty of screenshots showing off video chats with his make-out buddy. The face in the Terry pictures matches the ones in the screenshots, and Wixon's been retweeting some of his posts.
Tumblr user conostumlyyr (http://conostumlyyr.tumblr.com/page/3) has also put up a few photos of the model, eating gelato and looking pretty in Milan. One of the tags on these items reads "Connor Lang photography."
So Connor Lang appears to be an aspiring photographer and maybe even filmmaker living in New York. How does Wixson know him? Like Richardson, I'm a little bit of a creeper: according to Facebook, Lang's family lives in Wichita, Kansas, the model's hometown. Were they high school sweethearts? Each other's boy/girl-next-door? Getting to imagine their shared past makes this photo series, which would otherwise be really disturbing, kind of sweet.
Still, maybe there are better places to make-out than in front of Richardson's camera lens.

Last night at Cannes, Roman Polanski debuted his new Prada-financed short, A Therapy. Essentially a highbrow ad, the three-minute film stars Helena Bonham Carter as a wealthy woman suffering from daddy issues and ennui and Sir Ben Kingsley as a Freudian shrink with a soft spot for Prada womenswear.
As the wonderful Bonham Carter monologues — she recounts a tedious dream, complains about how hard it is to be so very rich, and prattles on about how much she loves her father — Kingsley creeps away to try on her superb purple fur Prada coat.
Of course a Prada fur is far more compelling than a rich lady's non-problems, but what does it mean that only a dull bougie could afford such a beautiful coat? The question wasn't even considered. Kudos to Prada for bringing these three greats together, and giving them the resources to, in Polanski's words, "have fun on set," but let's not mistake this very good ad for art.
To Prada's credit, all the garments were designed and created exclusively for the film, and won't be available at retail.

Last month we watched P'trique from Sh*t Fashion Girls Say (http://www.thefashionspot.com/buzz-news/latest-news/172107-sht-fashion-girls-sayat-new-york-fashion-week-video) spill the beans about Charlotte Free's new contract with Maybelline (http://www.thefashionspot.com/buzz-news/latest-news/173513-charlotte-free-signs-with-maybelline-and-ptrique-spills-the-beans-). The clip was a pitch-perfect example of how advertisers can create effective campaigns for new media, but it was still, all-in-all, just a supplement to a forthcoming TV spot.
Free's Maybelline commercial popped up online today, and I think she does a good job. Some of the model's previous commercial work (like her Forever 21 campaign (http://www.thefashionspot.com/buzz-news/latest-news/173259-charlotte-free-might-have-shaved-her-armpits-for-forever-21)) has seemed flat, but this time she left her pretensions and alt-y persona at the door, transforming into the quintessential teen California girl. She's so relatable it makes me want to wash my brain out with soap. brb

World's youngest billionaire Mark Zuckerberg gets no shortage of press on an average day, but since Facebook made its initial public offering (IPO) on Wall Street last Friday, the tech behemoth's founder has been subject to an extra dollop of media scrutiny.
One of the points under discussion: the twentysomthing CEO's hoodie-heavy wardrobe. Can You Lead in a Hoodie? (http://www.forbes.com/sites/thestreet/2012/05/21/can-you-lead-in-a-hoodie-mark-zuckerberg-thinks-so/) asks Forbes; On His Big Day, Mark Zuckerberg Sticks With a Hoodie (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/on_mark_big_day_hoodie_suits_him_kkMlt3vOJ51Si1pEZ7TTzL?utm_medium=rss utm_content=National), observes the New York Post; CNN thinks Zuckerberg's Hoodie is Savvy, Not Snotty (http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/16/opinion/nugent-facebook-zuckerberg/). Salem, Massachusetts is a cool little city: the town is best known as the home of the historic witch trials immortalized in Arthur Miller's The Crucible, but it also boasts a lively waterfront, an esteemed documentary film festival (http://www.salemfilmfest.com/) and independent cinema house (http://cinemasalem.com), a gorgeous private lending library (http://www.salemathenaeum.net), and one of the oldest art museums in the U.S., the Peabody Essex.
And now it's going to be even cooler: Iris Apfel, the 90-year-old style icon, has donated over 600 pieces from her acclaimed couture collection to the Peabody Essex. In addition to garments, the selection includes accessories (jewels!) and art objects. Apfel and her husband will also subsidize the construction of a new fashion wing, which will open to the public in 2017.
Most of the items in the Peabody Essex's newly-acquired fashion gold mine were first displayed at the Metropolitan Museum's 2005 exhibition "Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel." A capsule version of the Met exhibit traveled to the Salem museum in 2009.
Inspired by Apfel's gift, businessman George Putnam decided to sponsor a curatorial fellowship in fashion and textiles. The Peabody Essex is about to become a major hub for fashion history and scholarship: let's go!

The upcoming Sex and the City prequel TV series, The Carrie Diaries, is a giant, oozing pimple on pop culture's already blemishy face, and we can't stop picking at it. Gross, I know. Sorry. But The Carrie Diaries is such a gross concept — and yet, still I'm so drawn to it.
Anyway, this is a very roundabout way of saying that when I saw that The Carrie Diaries trailer had been posted online, I reallyreally wanted to hate-watch it. But no-can-do, kids: YouTube pulled the trailer after Warner Bros. filed a copyright claim. If the Internet isn't going to help us indulge our bad habits, maybe we should just turn it off.

Victoria Beckham has a lot going on: a desirable soccer star husband, four kids, a critically acclaimed and commercially successful fashion label. But the designer-mom isn't letting up. In an interview with CNN, Beckham spoke about her plans to open her own store very soon.
That will probably be in London, in the not so distant future. But it could be Hong Kong. Who knows?

It seems like designer Uma Wang is hardly ever down on her luck, but last night fate threw her yet another bone: the weather was pretty much perfect for her official welcome party to the city, which took place at the W Downtown Living Room Bar Terrace.
After launching her eponymous label in 2005, Wang quickly rose to the top of China's fashion industry and established an enviable international reputation. Earlier this year, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund announced they'd be bringing her to New York City as part of their new China Exchange initiative (http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/designer-luxury/cfdavogue-fashion-funds-exchange-program-5774427). (NYC-based designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler are headed to Shanghai.)
The evening was hosted by Vogue’s Meredith Melling Burke, the CFDA’s Steven Kolb, and W Hotels fashion director Jenné Lombardo. As you might imagine, these heavy-hitters helped to draw an impressive industry guest list: Peter Som, Jenna Lyons, Kate Foley, Christian Cota, Doo Ri Chung, and so many others were on hand to celebrate Wang's arrival.
And of course, there was no shortage of fashion eye candy. My favorite looks: Opening Ceremony's Kate Foley wore a navy peplum top over shimmery emerald pants bedazzled with gold, and sisters Phoebe and Annette Stephens drew attention in drapey neutral kaftans and statement pieces from their rising star jewelry label, Anndra Neen (below, right).
