Timed to coincide with the New York City premiere of Sex and the City 2, Patricia Field, the film’s costume designer, launched her line of beach ready gear at Manhattan’s 230 Fifth rooftop bar.
The House of Field line includes eyewear, swimwear, and beach towels. The space was packed to the brim with fabulously over-the-top styled fashionistas sipping martinis while taking in the gorgeous summer night.
The evening culminated in a fashion show that featured 18 runway looks and 12 mannequins in an interactive installation that included Ippolita gold jewelry, with looks from House of Field by David Dalrymple, Ivana Sert (SATC), and The Blonds (of Britney Spears and Rihanna fame). As you’d expect, there were plenty of skin-barring cutouts, fishnet capes, beaded touches, and crystals.
To complement the extravagant swimwear, Rodney Cutler for Cutler/Redken created youthful fishtailed updos and we got the scoop on how they were created. "The high fishtail braid is a fun evening looking and very wearable," Cutler explains. "We’ve seen so many buns up top, and this is just taking it one step further."
To create the look, Cutler prepped hair by applying Redken Align 12 Protective Straightening Lotion and blow-dried through with a medium brush. Next, he tightly gathered the hair into a high ponytail on the very top of the head, about three inches from the hairline, and secured it with an elastic.
He then took a small piece of hair and wrapped around the elastic and secured that with a bobby pin. Next, a fishtail braid was weaved down to the end of the hair and pinned in upon itself right at the hairline. The look was finished with shine spray, and then some finishing Spray for extra-strong hold.
Sex and the City 2 may not be getting stellar reviews from film critics, but Patricia Field always gets two thumbs up from me.
