M Missoni Resort 2011

For M Missoni’s Resort 2011 collection, designer Angela Missoni channeled 60’s mod with cropped, short dresses, headscarves, and belts worn under the chest. It only takes one look at the short dresses – whether it be of the halter, tank or long-sleeved variety – for you to end up with lingering visions of the iconic waif model Twiggy in your head.

Bringing back the sixties for a collection isn’t exactly groundbreaking. The decade’s look never truly went out of style, rendering this collection rather unremarkable, even veering toward the dated and dusty.  Many of the looks appeared as though they had been plucked from a basement, given their drab colors that included beige, brown, aubergine, and gray, long-strap bags and inconspicuously simple shoe. There were a few pops of more vibrant colors, but even those were on the dusty side -namely red and orange looks that combined monochromatic pieces with complementing colored prints.
