Alexander McQueen Menswear Spring 2011

Burton, who was widely expected to replace the British designer, had worked with McQueen since 1996, and was promoted to her pre-Creative Director role in 2000.

Burton was also the one taxed with completing the unfinished McQueen collection presented during Paris Fashion Week.

The 16 looks were 80% of the way finished at the time of McQueen’s death, and under Burton, a design team of five finished them, resulting in one of the most praised collections of the season.

Now, in Milan during the Men’s Spring 2011 Ready to Wear shows, Burton presented her first collection as Creative Director for Alexander McQueen.

Fittingly, the collection had a slew of looks paying homage to past McQueen collections, but worked in were new, layered silhouettes.

There was a balance of clean lines (tying into an English, aristocratic inspiration), and bolder looks incorporating strong colors, as well as McQueen’s trademark photo-prints.
