UGG Does Knits

While the sheepskin shoes may be perennially popular come holiday season – as evidenced by the lines of shoppers that wait sometimes for hours just to get into one of the brand’s stores – wearing UGGs has become somewhat of a faux pas in a number of circles.

In an attempt to change that, the Australian brand has teamed up with Jimmy Choo for a much-hyped limited edition collection, and now they have announced that they have opted to expand into knitwear.

I can’t deny the benefit off UGGs, no matter how much flack I may get for them when I opt to wear them; they are comfy, warm, and when compared to the likes of Timbalands, aesthetically appealing.

However, the brand’s attempts at branching out have thus far fallen flat. Their more fashion-forward shoes and their handbags are simply heinous – and overpriced.

Only a few images of the knit pieces have been realized thus far, and from the looks of things they seem unobtrusive – although with wholesale prices from $97 to $297, I have a feeling they will veer on the side of overpriced as well.

The women’s and men’s knitwear collection will be launched at Neiman Marcus, Ugg retail stores and through uggaustralia.com in the fall.  Expect chunky hand-knit cable V-necks, cardigans and Italian merino wool sweater coats, brushed lambswool ponchos, cable-knit sweaters with hoods lined with full grain shearling, and fisherman cables in turtlenecks and V-necks.
