For Bibhu Mohapatra’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection, Mohapatra created looks that can go easily from day to evening. This collection contained a lot of cocktail dresses, with an unbelievable amount of detail. Although some of these looks were slightly overworked, the wow factor was undeniable.
This collection contained several architecturally structured pieces. Mohapatra’s black silk cotton and organza laser pop dress with seemingly interconnected geometric shapes was a real standout.
What really worked in this collection is the fact that Bibhu Mohapatra has a deep understanding of how to create visually interesting, architectural garments.
His work, although fashion forward, still feels consumer friendly and youthful.
Mohapatra’s foray into eveningwear is a new venture, and if this collection is any indication, this new addition should expand his consumer base.
Although Mohapatra’s column blue print gown with black clouds was the hit of this presentation, hopefully he will continue to do what he does best: fashion-forward cocktail dresses that show how sexy the feminine silhouette can be
