Bebe S/S 2011

Referencing certain things in their collections is par for the course for most designers. Be it a particular decade, era, or cultural reference, designers are always influenced by the world around them.

That said, Bebe’s Spring/Summer 2011 was heavily influenced by the bohemian chic style of the 1970′s.

Alhough this collection had some wonderful pieces – fringed vests, handkerchief skirts, and caftan blouses – the reference at times was too literal.

From the Mary Tyler Moore hairdo to the azalea print dresses and the suede halter-tops, this collection looked almost as if a vintage store had emptied out its inventory.

The muted color palettes didn’t help elevate this collection from an homage to the era of Carole King and Three Dogs Night.

The good thing about this collection is that the clothes are soft, flirty, and fun, which speaks to the young woman who wants to be coquettishly stylish.
