Moschino Cheap & Chic S/S 2011: Milan Fashion Week

Rossella Jardini must have been sipping peace and love Kool-Aid when designing the Spring 2011 Moschino Cheap & Chic collection. Peace and love are, of course, symbols inherent to the brand; along with punchy, clashing colors, and patterns, the two motifs were on full display.

To go along with the fun-loving atmosphere of the contemporary collection, waiters were on hand to serve up prosecco and pizza to guests. The models, in a Sonia Rykiel-esque twist, blew kisses at the crowd when they walked down the runway. The show capped off with the girls joyfully dancing.

Brimming with succulent oranges, pinks, yellows, and greens, the collection was packed with coral detail: coral branch-shaped jewelry, raffia bags embroidered with faux coral and turquoise, quilted handbags finished with shells on the straps, shell belt buckles, oversized sunglasses, and scarves fashioned into headbands. Polka dots, gingham, and pop art blocked designs also made their way down the runway.

Although pearl-topped sweaters were featured on the Stella McCartney catwalk in past seasons, there was nothing like Moschino’s lemon yellow, cable knit sweater covered with pearls, especially because it was paired with a lemon print skirt. If fashion has the power to sway moods, here’s a collection that will make anyone’s day a little brighter.

My favorite look? The lemon yellow sweater with the word “smile” emblazoned on it – now that’s a good way to sum up Jardini’s collection.
