A few days ago, I stopped by the Bleecker Street Coach boutique to preview the brand’s Spring 2011 Coach and Poppy collections.
The main Coach line’s Spring collection is inspired by classic, clean, ladylike structures that play up soft textures, fabrics, and colors. Given the inspiration and the materials used, it’s little surprise that nearly every style is versatile and wearable.
Among the standouts is the curved Kristin Collection, which has a slimmer deco clasp this season, offered in a few different material options, including embossed crocodile, an op-art ikat print, and monochromatic leather.
A new round satchel called the Sage stood out among the many new styles. It has a timeless Audrey Hepburn-like quality to it, and is made with gold hardware and an extra long strap.
The style comes in a number of iterations, including a woven version and an embossed python version. Both of these heighten the bags’ appeal, and work with the season’s trend of playing with textures (think Proenza Schouler, with their abundance of sheer paneled dresses).
Also noteworthy is the Madison Sophia, which will once again return for Spring 2011. The slightly curved rectangular silhouette will be for sale in new colors and fabrications, including lacy, eyelet-inspired cut out leather, a watercolor effect, gathered leather, and metallic-embossed python.
As for the shoes, all are made with Italian leathers in the same tanneries as the brand’s bags, and come in espadrille, wedge, ballet flat, and high heel styles. The outwear includes classic, trench-like styles in both short and knee-lengths, each offered in a range of colors including yellow, blue, white, and khaki.
Those looking for bold looks need not go any further than the Spring 2011 Poppy collection. Expect all that is frilly and girly from Coach’s "younger collection," which was inspired by the brand’s latest scent. Brimming with glitter and popping metallics, it’s high in flash, providing a welcome balance to the classic Coach collection.
