Tory Burch has a way of conjuring up images of sunning in St. Barts and summering in the Hamptons with her collections, so it was fitting that the designer held a resort-themed event at her Manhattan boutique in the Meatpacking District.
Bloggers and editors were invited to browse the designer’s resort 2011 and holiday collections, which just hit stores, and then style a model in the look of their choice. Though the collection was surf-focused, there were some après ski-appropriate looks in the mix as well. Since I don’t like the cold, I opted for a warm-weather outfit, styling my model (right) in khaki shorts with gold hardware, a knit short sleeve beige sweater accented with tassels in various deep hues around the sleeves, and a khaki jacket with gold buttons.
Given the bold colors on the sweater, and the gold details on the pants and jacket, I didn’t go for any accessories other than brown and gold studded sandals. Were it not for the frigid New York City weather, I would have worn the ensemble out of the store myself!
The outfit I dressed my model in was fairly reflective of Tory Burch’s resort collection this season. The designer was inspired by a trip she had taken to Rajasthan, which has me particularly excited given an upcoming trip I have planned to India. Hopefully, I too will come across such gorgeous vibrant colors and prints – even the designer’s sequin jackets are fresh.
The accessories always strike me as Burch’s strongest suit and this season, the designer has a number of UGG-like boots (think UGG/Jimmy Choo collaboration), as well as leather boots and a variety of sequin flats and studded sandals with metal detailing, much like her jewelry. To go with the bright prints, Burch has some stackable necklaces fashioned out of bright rubber, beads, and seashells.
The event, in full jet-setter style, included champagne, marshmallows finished with Tory Burch’s logo, and orange macarons, capped off with gifts for all the attendees – travel essentials as picked by Tory Burch! The designer’s must-haves include socks, lip balm, moisturizer, and travel candles – I’d say I’m on the same page with the designer, except I’d like to slip my perpetually cold feet into some cashmere slippers instead.
