Yigal Azrouel Fall 2011 Runway Review

Talk about completely unexpected. This season is turning out to be one of the most refreshing since the recession began to affect the runway. Joining the likes of Diane von Furstenberg and J. Mendel, Yigal Azrouel took some risks and went in a new direction for his Fall 2011 collection. The results? Stellar.

With a vibrant color palette and a menswear inspiration taken to the max while still being completely wearable, Azrouel went well beyond the expected loosely draped garments and knits he always does so well. Given that this is the designer’s Fall collection, there was a surprising amount of white on the runway, including some head-to-toe looks, but I’d be willing to bet that many of his customers will opt to break the “no white after Labor Day” rule to go snow bunny chic in a long sleeve, turtleneck floor length dress paired with one of the fur outerwear pieces Azrouel showed.

The only minor flop in the collection was an ostrich feather gown, but it was more than counterbalanced by a gorgeous gold embroidered one. Oscars, anyone?
