Bora Aksu Fall 2011 Runway Review

Each season, Bora Aksu’s inspiration completely drives the direction of his collection. Everyone will remember last season’s colony of ants that crawled all over the show from the models’ hair to the collection’s knits. His womenswear is always strong, powerful, and decisive with complex knits, mixed prints, and statement pieces.

This season’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde influence was apparent in the looks’ menswear influences paired with the armored bodices and deconstructed tailoring. There has always been a dark, moody air to Aksu’s collections but this season’s separates-heavy collection was different with its primarily grayscale tones and contrasting textures.

Curved lapels, exaggerated shoulders, and zipper detailed jackets were paired with flirty cocktail dresses and a smoky palette to create a Victorian influenced collection that was just modern enough to integrate into the everyday woman’s wardrobe.
