Dsquared2 Fall 2011 Runway Review

Continuing with their affinity for the cowboy with their Dsquared2 collection this season, Dean and Dan Caten headed to the Wild West once again for Fall 2011. Dsquared2’s fashions are always a parade of entertainment, but the duo can sometimes take their inspiration too literally. The overflow of clear-cut cowboy references abounded at this season’s show and, compounded by the fact that a number of major brands, including D&G and Moschino, have recently shown cowboy-inspired collection, the theme grew a bit stale.

The reliance on a somewhat gimmicky inspiration aside, there were a number of covetable individual pieces including high-waiteded pants, cozy fringe blankets worn as capes (hopefully they’ll make their way into a Dsquared2 home collection!), worn-in jeans, and fitted fur collar jackets, but many of the pieces fell victim to over-styled, layered looks that offered too much for the eye to take in.

The most questionable aspect of the collection, however, were the lace-up boots finished with ice-skating blade-like heels…ice-skating in the West?
