Barbara Bui Fall 2011 Runway Review

It would appear that Paris’ designers would like to remind the world that this is for Fall. We’ve seen countless sleeveless dresses this season, but Barbara Bui wants to make sure we have something to wear over them. Drawing from an expansive selection of textiles that included the ambiguously named ‘technical taffeta’, goat hair, silver ombre shearling, angora, and leather, Bui showed variations on the classic aviator and motorcycle jackets while playing with proportion and mixed media.

Monochrome collections have become something of a trend this season and while Bui followed suit, her warm creams and camel furs worked to accent the mainly black and grey looks. Noteworthy above all else were the high-collared aviator coats that paired warm shearling with shiny patent leather and biker jackets with removable fur hems that gave the illusion of a skirt underneath, another trend that’s been creeping up since Milan.

Beyond the obviously successful outerwear and keeping with the collection’s Parisian minimalism, the dresses, skirts, and super-slim cut trousers proved this to be a well-rounded and desirable collection.
