Best in Show Awards, Fall 2011: Part 2

Following yesterday’s Best in Show Awards, here are some more of our favorite (and least favorite) looks, collections, accessories, and presentations from the past month.

Best Streetstyle: Joanna Hillman

Perhaps not as revered as streetstyle veterans like Taylor Tomasi-Hill and Anna Dello Russo, this season has been Joanna Hillman’s shining style moment. The Senior Fashion Market Editor at Harper’s Bazaar was seen in fashion capitals around the world with her signature blonde locks swept to one shoulder and an array of expertly styled looks.

Most Buzz: Galliano

With the controversy surrounding John Galliano and his dismissal from Dior, buzz was promptly shifted to his namesake label. Still heavily invested in by major corporations, the label doesn’t carry the same heritage, and therefore strict rules, as Dior. The collection was beautiful and quintessentially Galliano, as expected by the droves who came out to see what was in store.

Best Shoes: Christopher Kane

Maybe not the most outrageous shoe of fashion month, this easy and, in spite of the height, wearable shoe is the perferct one to take you from day to night. I’ve been known to wear every Mary Jane that crossed my path but these might just be taking top slot on my must-have list.

Most Treacherous Shoes: Thierry Mugler

In a show filled with veteran models, tumbles are not to be expected, but in these skyscrapers no fewer than four models lost their footing. Luckily for the models, the set was built with enough pillars for them to nonchalantly catch themselves.

Best Use of Texture: Bottega Veneta

This season’s collections were filled to the brim with designers’ clashing prints and textures but no one did it better than Bottega Veneta’s Tomas Maier. Maier’s autumnal palette paired with the delicate use of texture made for a covetable collection for a sophisticated woman.

Best Nails: Jen Kao

Nails have quickly become the go-to beauty trick to transform a look from average to extraordinary. Nail artists came out in droves this season, and most beauty editors were cooing over the caviar nails at Cuchine et Ochs, but it was these creatures from the deep inspired nails by CND at Jen Kao that took top bill.

Best Hair: Nina Ricci

This cool swept-up half ‘do with delicate jeweled headbands was one part prim and proper and one part coquettish. An air of The Virgin Suicides was apparent with the models’ clean-looking locks pinned into a carefree twist that paired perfectly with the feminine collection.

Worst Hair: Yohji Yamamoto

The words ‘troll dolls’ come to mind. Do not try this one at home.
