Uniqlo Annouces New Designer Collaborations

Costello Tagliapietra, whose designers Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra already have a history of working with Uniqlo, will be joined by eight other brands, each of whom have designed limited edition pieces for the Japense retailer. Among the others are veteran fashion collaborators Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock of Vena Cava (who have previously worked with the GAP), and Charlotte Ronson (who has a JC Penney collection), along with six brands better known in Japan: Zechia, Tiny Dinosaur, Suzuki Takayuki, Theatre Products, Nine, and Double Standard Clothing.

The collections are part of Uniqlo’s Designers Invitation Project, which in the past has included collections from Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, and Alice Roi. The collections will each feature six pieces, according to WWD. The first capsule line will be Costello Tagliapietra’s and it will launch on April 21, followed by Charlotte Ronson’s launch on May 5, and Vena Cava’s debut on May 12, with others to follow thereafter. Each piece will retail for $29.99, but thus far only images of some Charlotte Ronson-designed pieces have been released, each of which play into the season’s nautical trend.

Perhaps none of the designers live up to the instant brand recognition of Wang or Lim, but with these low price points – even for Uniqlo standards – there’s much to get excited about, especially if Vena Cava offers up some of their signature printed vintage-inspired creations.
