BEHATI PRINSLOO, MODEL PROFILE

Being an up-and-coming model in today’s competitive fashion world is tough, but the pressure is even more intense when one is always being compared to Kate Moss.

Growing up as a preacher’s daughter in the African country of Namibia, Behati Prinsloo came from modest beginnings.  In 2005, at the age of sixteen, she was discovered in a grocery store in Cape Town, South Africa, by model scout Sarah Doukas.  Doukas was most famous for the discovery of Kate Moss in 1988.  With her small brown eyes and sly smile, Behati instantly drew comparisons with the waifish Brit supermodel.

During the Spring/Summer 2006 campaigns, Behati walked in over a dozen shows, including Milan exclusives for Prada and Miu Miu.  At the same time, she appeared in an editorial for British Vogue.  However, it wasn’t until the following spring in which she was booked for simultaneous ad campaigns at Marc Jacobs and H&M that Behati’s face became a well known staple in the fashion industry.

Soon, Behati became a regular in every major fashion show and appeared in several large ad campaigns.  During the Fall/Winter 2006 season, she walked down the runway for over seventy designers, including Chanel Haute Couture. She graced the February 2007 cover of Vogue Russia, and in later months was seen on covers of other European fashion magazines.

When not on the runway, Behati is often seen with best friend and fellow model, Coco Rocha.  She is also a supporter of the Environmental Justice Foundation, a charity that focuses on environmental issues.

This spring, Behati will be seen modeling for Pink by Victoria’s Secret.
