Born 18 December 1987, in Roskilde, Denmark, Freja Beha Erichsen didn’t grow up wanting to become a supermodel.
Although she aspired to be a singer, she admits that “I shouldn’t even sing in the bath’’.
But she has since ended up on a different kind of stage.
Freja started modeling in 2005, at the age of 17 and made an impression with her icy glare, laidback walk and a statuesque frame. Since her debut, she has became a runway regular at coveted shows like Christian Dior, Prada, Chloé, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Balenciaga and Chanel. She is also a muse to the legendary Karl Lagerfeld who chose her to front two consecutive Chanel ad campaigns in 2007 and photographed her for a Numéro cover.
Unlike most models, Freja did not move to live in the bustling city of New York at the height of her career, and she still calls Denmark her home. She likes to spend her off-duty times with her friends, family and enjoy her mother’s food.
She has a very close friendship with fellow model Irina Lazareanu as the two are always seen hanging out, but there are also “really good friends from primary school, high school and other periods of her life”.
Last year, Freja gave herself a makeover and cut off her long locks to a short crop. She showed it off during the Spring/Summer 08’ runway season and from there she has become the ideal model to showcase gender-bending looks, which are very common in fashion nowadays.
For the most recent V #52 ‘Rock Steady’and Vogue UK’s ‘About a boy’ editorials, she demonstrated to perfection the masculinity of the latest womens’ collection, which again wowed the fashion world.
This Fall, Freja will be seen in Emporio Armani’s campaign.
