Rag & Bone Spring 2012 Runway Review

Only a few days into fashion week we can officially say that sportswear is going to be a huge trend next season. We’re not talking Michael Kors-eqsue ‘contemporary sportswear’, as much as we may love it, but actual athletic references inherent to the clothes. Before you go stocking up on gym socks, you should take a look at Rag & Bone’s spring showing as designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright did an excellent job pairing modern athletic references with tailored separates and contemporary silhouettes.

From the moment the first look came out with a hooded poncho under a tailored pantsuit we knew that this was no ordinary collection. The designing duo integrated modern trends into sporty silhouettes. Even this season’s star, the mullet skirt, got a sporty makeover.

While the styling certainly did a good job communicating the designers’ vision for the collection, it left a bit to be desired with wearability. Some of the pairings were jarring and forced you to do a quick dissection of the pieces layered in the look. Luckily for us, once dissected, those pieces stand out on their own and are sure to be a great commercial success.
