Melbourne Spring Fashion Week has wrapped up for another year. As a true celebration of Melbourne style and design (an astounding 80% of labels shown were local this year), it’s time to look back at the best parts of the week. And, more importantly, what we’d love to be wearing around town this season.
BeTrend: Saba's Tropical Ferns
Best Trend: Obus' Mexican Holiday
The Best Trend: Gorman's Tropical Fruit
Fashion is taking a holiday with a decidedly tropical trend. Obus channelled a Mexican Frida Kahlo, while Gorman gets a little fruity, Carmen Miranda-style. Saba featured fern leaf motifs and even Limedrop included a pineapple print.
The Best Print: Alexi Freeman's Chain Print
The Best Print: Alexi Freeman's Chain Print
Alexi Freeman has Melbourne tied up in chain print this season. His collaboration with jeweller Tessa Blazey has been reflected in his delicately heavy metal, metallic print.
The Best Moment
The Best Colour: White Suede's Orange
The Best Colour: Trimapee's Orange
It seems orange is the colour of the moment. From peach to tangerine to burnt umber; everyone including White Suede and the usually all-black Trimapee seemed to add a splash of this juicy hue. If you are going to attempt the colour blocking in Melbourne this season, consider orange.
Best Accessory: Anna Davern
The Best Accessory: Simone Agius' Handbag
My favourite accessories of the week easily managed to steal some of the spotlight away from the fashion. Anna Davern’s oversized, printed earrings at Alice Euphemia take costume jewellery to another level. I also can’t go past emerging designer Simone Agius’ exaggerated diamond ring-shaped handbag.
