Matthew Williamson Spring 2012 Runway Review

Don’t think that just because Spring 2012 has been dominated by brights, a Matthew Williamson signature, that the designer would let others steal his thunder. Pairing his love for eye-catching colors and heavily embellished garments with more toned down daywear and laid-back boho silhouettes, the designer showed one of his best collections to date.

It’s no easy feat to make gowns and separates with so many frills (think embroidery, feathers, beading, etc.) feel laid-back, but this season Williamson has managed to do so for a polished collection that appeared easy to wear thanks in large part to the designer’s affinity for loose-fitting cuts. Among the stand-out looks were monochromatic and ikat print shirt dresses, loose-fitting coral and orange blazers, and cocktail dresses finished with feathers for a peplum-like effect.
