Missoni Spring 2012 Runway Review

At its core it was business as usual at Missoni – and why not? Given that the launch of their Target collection caused the retail giant’s website to crash it was so overloaded, Missoni clearly has a formula for success. Their signature knits, prints, and zig zags of color were all over the Spring 2012 runway, unfortunately this season they took on a Spanish fiesta-meets-gypsy queen feel. Ruffles, fringe, and tassels decorated tiered skirt and off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, many of which included multiple textures and fabrics in their construction making for complete visual overload.

It has been clear for a few seasons now that the brand is hoping to appeal to a younger demographic and the off-the-mark layering and messy boho styling is a clear reflection of that. Messy styling however doesn’t necessarily equate with cool and Angela Missoni would have been better off reigning in some of the excessive frills to give the collection more wearable appeal.
