Christian Louboutin Fetes 20 Years in Fashion

Barneys New York has been building the buzz about the 20th anniversary of Christian Louboutin’s shoe business for weeks. In fact, the shoe maven designed a limited edition pair of stilettos exclusively for the retailer; appropriately enough only 20 pairs were made and after a 20-day period in which a clue as to the shoe design was revealed every day, the shoes are now for sale. Each pair is autographed by Christian Louboutin and retails for $3995. The 20th anniversary celebration culminated last night at a star-studded cocktail party to fete the recent launch of Louboutin’s anniversary book, Christian Louboutin ($150).

Fittingly, the soiree — which took place on the 4th floor of Barneys’ Madison Avenue flagship and was attended by Blake Lively, Calvin Klein, the Olsen twins, Lorraine Schwartz, and Tyrese — came complete with red lighting, red curtains, and more red soles than one could count. As for the book, those without strong biceps be warned, the coffee table dome is heavy!  Among the many beautiful images you'll find inside are photograph contributions by film director David Lynch and photographer Philippe Garcia and there is a forward written by, believe it or not, actor John Malkovich. The book also details the designer's biography, features never-before-seen personal photos, a chapter highlighting the interiors of his boutiques around the world, and one chapter with shots of the designer's various homes, studios, and workshops. The book also includes a complete catalogue of Louboutin’s designs.
